I am going to be a bit self indulgent here- but this is my blog- so I'm gonna, because I am proud that I did something I NEVER thought I would do, not for fun anyway. I never thought of myself as a runner my whole life. I hated running in PE in school. But after I had Tyson, I NEEDED to do something to lose a bunch of pounds. So I just started walking at first, then started running as much as I could and kept pushing myself to do more and go farther. I have learned a lot about myself since then, that I CAN be a runner, and that I CAN be fit and athletic. I love it, It feels great.
I ran in my first race near the Hoover Dam on March 14
th. I was so nervous the whole night before, I don't know why, I knew I wasn't going to be even close to winning! I think it was just the anticipation of the unknown. My friend Stephanie has been asking me about running marathons (ha, ya right) ever since she found out I ran occasionally on my treadmill. It turns out running outside is way different than running on a treadmill! So finally she suggested that I start small, at a 5K and I decided I was up to the challenge. She did it with me and left me in the dust, and my other friend Cindy did the half marathon. We ran on an old railroad line, through tunnels, it was cool.

When my kids saw me wearing my medal, their eyes were all big and Carson said "Mom, did you win?!" I just thought "
ohhhh, how sweet my kids believe in me enough to think that I could actually win". And then I told them that no mommy didn't win, but almost...
hee hee. They give the medals to everyone- we were all winners!

After the race, we went to see the Hoover Dam since we were so close. It was actually way neater (is that a word?) than I thought it would be. They are building this gigantic bridge over it that just takes your breath away, really! You can't really tell by the picture, but it is awe-some!

My mom was there too, HI MOM- thanks for being there with us! There we are ON the dam with awesome bridge in the background again.

We found some chipmunks to feed right out of our hands. Note:chipmunks love crunchy granola bars!

It was a great day! Next challenge: 10K?
